We all know that there are nine planets in Astrology and these planets have a brief introduction to their credit. SUN/SURYA
He is the son of Maharishi Kashyap and Devmata Aditi. He borrows his name “Aditya” from his Mother. He is the king among the nine planets and father to Saturn/Shanidev that happens to be another planet in Astrology. He is an important deity among the Panch Deva in the Hindu religion and his worship is treated at par with Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva, Goddess Durga and Ganpati. He is the only deity besides Moon that is considered a Pratyaksha Dev i.e who is visible to the naked eye every day. The Suryavansh originated from him that included famous kings like Manu, Ikshvaku, Harishchandra, Bhagirath, Dashratha, Lord Ram and Lava-Kush. He also has a great credit of being the mentor to Lord Hanuman. He is synonymously known as Ravi, Dinkar, Hiranyagarbha, Khag, Bhaskar, Diwakar, Aditya etc. Its governing color is reddish pink and governing deity is Lord Shiva.
MOON/CHANDRA
He is the son of Mahrishi Atri and Mata Anusuya. He was among the fourteen jewels that originated during the samudra manthan. He adorns the matted locks of Lord Shiva yielding the name “Chandrashekhar” to him. Moon is the father of Budh/Mercury and he is married to the 27 daughters (representing 27 nakshatras) of Kind Daksh. He is synonymously known as Indu, Rakesh, Soma, Atrisuta Nishakara etc. Moon borrows its energy directly from the Sun. The famous Somnath Jyotirling is named after Moon. He is the Queen (due to feminine qualities) in the Sun’ cabinet. I ts governing color is white and presiding deity is Lord Shiva.
MARS/MANGAL
He is the son of Bhumi/Prithvi and Lord Shiva. He borrows his name Bhaum from his mother. The word Mangal means auspiciousness.He was blessed by Lord Shiva to be the first outer planet in Astrology. It is Mangal that causes the MANGLIK DOSHA and its fiery nature is known to cause discord in married life. He is synonymously known as Kuja, Angarak, Lohit, Raktavarna, Bhumiputra, Rinharta etc. He is the commander-in-chief in the Sun’ cabinet. Its governing color is red and its governing deity is Lord Kartikeya/Hanuman ji.
MERCURY/BUDH
He is the son of Moon and Devi Tara. Devguru Brihaspati/Jupiter happens to be his mentor and it is known to have mastered all spiritual scriptures and literature through him. He holds the position of prince in the Sun’ cabinet. He is known to have a enemical relation with his Father i.e. Moon. This is the only planet in Astrology that does not have a behaviour of its own and rather it draws the behaviour in from the associating planet(s). Its governing color is green and governing deity is Lord Vishnu. It is also known as Chandrsuta, Rohinipriyaya, Saumya etc.
JUPITER/BRIHASPATI
He is the son of Mahrishi Angiras and Vyasa. He happens to be the chief preceptor of the Devas and hence known as the DEVGURU. He mastered all the scriptures ranging from the Vedas to all Puranas and Upanishads and hence was bestowed the role of being the mentor of the Devas. His consort is Devi Tara and his son is Kacha. He mastered the “Vipreet Sanjeevani Vidya”. He is synonymously known as Devguru, Vachaspati, Purohit, Angirasa, Brahmputra etc, Its governing color is golden/yellow and its governing deity is Lord Brahma.

VENUS/SHUKRA
He is the son of Maharishi Bhrigu and Kavyamata. He happens to be the chief preceptor of the Asuras/Demons and hence he is also addressed as the Daitya Guru. He is also known to have mastered all the Vedas, Puranas and other important scriptures. His consort is Jayanti who happens to be Indra’ daughter. He is known to have sought the knowledge of “Mrit Sanjeevani Vidya” from Lord Shiva. He is synonymously known as Bhargava, Ushna, Daitya Guru, Kavya etc. Its governing color is off white and its governing deity is Maha Lakshmi.
SATURN/SHANI
He is the son of Surya and Chaya. He holds the position of the supreme judge who executes the human beings for their deeds on Earth. It also happens to be the Slowest moving planet in Astrology hence termed as “Manda”. Saturn causes the Dhaiya and the well known Sade Sati phenomenon. His mentor is Lord Shiva and his consort is Dhamini. He is synonymously known as Manda, Chayaputra, Konastha, Pingala, Suryasuta etc. Its governing color is dark navy blue and its governing deity is Lord Kaal Bhairav.
RAHU
He is the son of Viprachitti and Simhika. The well known Rahu-Kal is caused by its influence and it is considered very inauspicious. Unlike other planets it happens to be a shadow planet by nature. Its real name is Swarbhanu and Rahu is believed to be the head portion of Swarbhanu after it was chopped off by Lord Vishnu during the event of amrit paan by the Devtas. Its consort is Rahi. It is synonymously known as Simhika Putra, Tamas, Meghvarnaya, Bhujgeshwar etc. Its governing color is black and its governing deity is Goddess Saraswati.
KETU
He is also the son of Simhika. He represents the lower body of Swarbhanu. Its consort is Keta and together with Rahu it causes the Solar and Lunar eclipse.It is the second planet that deals with an individual’s Karma after Shani. It is synonymously known as Dhwajakrit, Raknetray, Raudra, Krurkantha,iGhor etc. Its governing color is Red (with orange tint) and its governing deity is Ganpati.
