Arvind Kejriwal: The Aam Aadmi’s Chief Minister

Arvind Kejriwal's climb to the upper echelons of power and in the hearts of the masses continues, as he heroically delivers on the promises made in the party's manifesto. From the very day the Aam Aadmi Party came into existence, the political system has witnessed winds of change, giving hope to the "Aam Aadmi" that good governance is indeed possible. And by the looks of it, Kejriwal and his team seem dedicated to bring in the change that people want to see.

When the results for the Delhi elections were announced the Aam Aadmi Party stole the show and Kejriwal became the People's Man, heralding the beginning of a new era in Indian Politics. No matter how many days the new government lasts, it has definitely made an impact and Delhi politics will never be the same again.

So how well, do you know your Chief Minister? Here are some interesting facts from the Chief Minister's life.

The not so ordinary life of the ordinary man

Born on 16th August 1968 in Haryana, Kejriwal's father was an electrical engineer. He did his schooling from the Campus School in Haryana. Kejriwal opted for Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Kharagpur), against the wishes of his family who wanted him to become a doctor. After graduating, he worked for Tata Steel for a couple of years. In 1995, Kejriwal joined the Indian Revenue Services.

The feisty Leo defeated three-time Chief Minister, Sheila Dixit in the 2013 Delhi Legislative Elections by a whopping 25, 864 votes. Kejriwal is the seventh and the youngest Chief Minister of Delhi.

He has also won several awards over the years. He has been awarded the CNN-IBN, Indian of the year, and Distinguished Alumnus Award from IIT Kharagpur, NDTV Indian of the Year and the IIM Gold Medal. He has also been awarded the Ramon Magsaysay award in 2006.

Kejriwal is a fan of Aamir Khan and enjoys watching Bollywood films. His friends recall Kejriwal being more interested in theatre than academics during his college years.

Kejriwal has also written a book, Swaraj that was published in 2012. Anna Hazare wrote the forward of the book.

He is a vegetarian and practices Vipassana, a Buddhist meditation technique that seeks to purify the mind.

The fearless leader is a romantic at heart. Kejriwal fell in love with wife Sunita while undergoing training at the National Academy of Administration in Nagpur for the Indian Revenue Services. And what impressed Sunita was Arvind's straightforwardness. The couple got married in November, 1994.  They are blessed with two children and live in a modest accommodation in Kaushambi. After finishing their training, the couple moved to Delhi.

In 1999, while still serving in the Indian Revenue Services, Arvind founded an NGO 'Parivartan' which helped resolve matters related to income tax, electricity and food ration. The NGO helped resolve around 800 cases in a speedy and efficient manner.

And, no the fairytale isn't over yet - "Picture abhi baki hai".  With the Lok Sabha elections around the corner, will Kejriwal manage to steal Narendra Modi's thunder? He already has in more ways than one but the road ahead for Kejriwal looks brighter than most other political leaders currently, as per the analysis of Astroyogi Astrologers. 2014 will surely see a massive rise in popularity of the Aam Aadmi Party and its leader, Arvind Kejriwal.
