The Holika Dahan ceremony is performed on the eve of Holi. On this evening, many people lit large bonfires. The bonfire symbolizes the fire that consumed Holika, who tried to kill her nephew, Prahlad. Holika Dahan is completed with full ritualistic worship. The rituals may differ from one location to the next. The following are the traditions associated with Holika Dahan Worship Rituals or Holika Dahan Puja Vidhi.
Take a bath and wear neat and clean clothes before starting the Puja.
First of all, gather the Puja or worship materials on a plate. Items included such as Dhoop, Agarbatti (incense), cow dung cakes, Akshat (unbroken rice), a Kalash filled with water, flowers, Gulal, coconut, fruits, Batasha or any other sweets, grains like wheat or gram, wood for the bonfire, Kumkum (vermillion), Haldi (turmeric), whole Moong lentil, Deep (oil-filled lamps), Kalava (cotton thread).
Use Gangajal (water from the holy Ganges) to cleanse the Puja spot for Holika Dahan.
Place the idols of Holika and Prahlad made of combustible materials on the heap of wood.
Face the East or North when performing the Puja.
Remember Lord Ganesh first, as, in Hinduism, all Puja starts after invoking Ganesha and seeking his blessings. Thereafter, worship Goddess Ambika or Gauri and Lord Narasimha. Present fruits and sweets to the holy deities.
Idols made of cow dung of the demoness, Holika, and Prahlad are placed on the heap. Offer sweets, fruits, and other essential materials, such as the Bharbholiye (garland made of dried cow dung), to Holika.
After that, the bonfire, created from the pile of wood, and the idol of Holika are set on fire. During this time, devotees can chant mantras to ward off evil spirits. Finish your prayers and worship by walking around the bonfire three, five, or seven times.
People also offer crops or grains to the fire to roast them. These roasted food items are later served as Prasad.
Holika Dahan is a time of joy, love, and positivity. By following these tips and mantras, you can maximize the positive energy of this auspicious occasion and create a happy and prosperous life. It is the time to remove negativity and evil from the mind, improve yourself, and help the universe get better in the coming days.
