International Women’s Day 2021

Celebrated every year on March 8th, International Women's Day, or known as Women's Day, is a heart-warming and motivating event for women across the world of all ages and ethnic and racial backgrounds. It unites and integrates women and even male feminists and those who believe in equality for all!

Exclusive events are held for, and often, even by women from different backgrounds like political, community, business leaders, and leading educators, inventors, entrepreneurs, and television personalities. These famous personalities aim to bring awareness and focus on various themes such as innovation, the portrayal of women in the media, or the importance of education and career opportunities for women.

So much importance has now been given to equality that in many countries (Armenia, Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, etc.), International Women's Day is celebrated as a public holiday!

Businesses, government offices, and even educational institutions are closed in these countries to celebrate Women's Day.

Many cities in some countries even host wide-scale events to honor women on this day. Celebrations include street marches, fairs, and discounts for women in shopping malls and restaurants!

A Little History About This Significant Day

The first International Women's Day was celebrated on March 19th in 1911. However, this date was moved to March 8th in 1913. This significant event, which included rallies and organized meetings, first saw success in countries like Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland.

The official logo for International Women's Day is purple and white, including the symbol of Venus, the symbol for females. Historically, the combination included the colors purple, white, and green to symbolize women's equality, which originated in the United Kingdom in 1908 from the Women's Social and Political Union. Among these tricolors, purple symbolizes justice and dignity, green represents hope, and white symbolizes purity. White was later removed from the logo as 'purity' was seen as a controversial concept.

Whether you want to celebrate the presence of your mom, your sister, your girlfriend, your teacher, or practically any woman in your life, International Women's Day is exactly for that. To appreciate and commemorate this persistent and robust gender who have fought oppression, discrimination, inequality, to name a few issues!
