Kamika Ekadashi: A day to relieve your sufferings

Kamika Ekadashi falls on Krishna paksha of the Sawan month which is usually in July/August. This time, Kamika Ekadashi is falling on August 10. Lord Vishnu is worshipped during Kamika Ekadashi and observing a fast on this day can free you from all sins and troubles. It is known as the best period for worshipping Lord Vishnu and for getting your wishes fulfilled.

Significance of this Ekadashi

Kamika Ekadashi holds a lot of significance in Hindu religion; it can free you from Pitra dosha and helps in attaining moksha or salvation. People also take a holy dip in sacred rivers and donate clothes and food. Therefore, it is said that observing a fast on this day is equivalent to performing an ashvamedha yagya.

By worshipping Lord Vishnu during the auspicious month of Sawan, you also worship the Gandharvas and serpents. If you want to please Lord Vishnu, you need to offer tulsi leaves to the Lord while performing puja as tulsi leaves are dear to Vishnu.

Rituals for the fast

Take a bath in the morning and pray to Lord Vishnu offering flowers, fruit, panchamrit, milk and sesame seeds.

Observe your fast with sincerity and faith; chant Lord Vishnu’s name and recite bhajans. There cannot be a better day to wear a Vishnu Lakshmi Pendant to seek blessings from Lord Vishnu.

Donating something to the needy is very significant. Eat food only after feeding a brahmin and giving him dakshina.

The story behind Kamika Ekadashi

Once Yudhishtira asked Lord Krishna about the Ekadashi that falls in the month of Sawan and its significance. Lord Krishna replied that he will narrate the story which Lord Brahma had previously told Naradji. The Ekadashi that occurs in the month of Sawan is known as Kamika. And just by the mere mention of it, one attains the fruit of performing Vajapaye Yagna. The blessings that one gets by worshipping Lord Vishnu cannot be acquired even if you bath in the sacred water of Ganga, Kashi, Pushkara or Naaimisha. Praying to Lord Vishnu on this day is like donating the entire earth in charity and those who keep a fast are bestowed with the same blessings that one gets after donating a milch cow, along with other things, in charity. It is the best time to get liberated from your sins and sufferings.
