Owner of one of India’s most valuable company by market value, Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani, is the chairman, managing director and the largest shareholder of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL). Ranked as the 18th wealthiest person in the world by Forbes, Mukesh Ambani has worked hard to achieve this fame.
Born on 19th April to businessman Dhirubhai Ambani and Kokilaben, Mukesh’s childhood was spent in a modest two-bedroom apartment in Mumbai. Mukesh learnt to move and mould his business with time and made use of the latest technology to further his business. The company moved from textiles to petrochemicals and lately into launching its own 4G smartphone brand.
Today, Bloomberg’s ‘Robin Hood Index’ estimates that Mukesh Ambani’s personal wealth would be enough to fund the operations of the Indian Federal Government, for almost three weeks!
Mukesh Ambani is an Aries and that is evident from the fact that he loves to initiate new projects and has an ambitious nature. Under his able guidance, Reliance has continued to conceptualise and implement mega-scale projects in quick time. Jamnagar, the single biggest investment in post-liberalised India at the time, is today one of the largest construction sites in the world!
The first sign in the zodiac, is a born trend-setter who doesn’t give up on his dreams. It was painful for Mukesh to let go of his telecom company, Reliance Infocom, when he separated business from his younger brother, Anil, in 2005. But Mukesh never gave up on his passion for telecom and more than a decade later, came back with the Reliance-Jio project. The Aries love for accepting challenges made Mukesh go ahead with Jio, inspite of established telecom rivals in the market.
Aries likes to dominate and love doing things on a large scale. Mukesh had a big hand in creating the giant Reliance even during Dhirubhai’s time. The ‘Brand Ambani’ has even entered into the sports and entertainment industry.
The fiery Aries is known to be stubborn at times and those who deal with Mukesh have had their fair share of ‘dressing downs’ with the business tycoon. Ambani, though, rarely loses his temper in public, but once in a while in some AGM, he is seen to be curt with shareholders.
An Aries protects his partner like a prized possession and is the most faithful partner, till they are given a reason not to. His marriage to a middle-class school teacher, Nita, is a fairy tale story. They found their soul-mates in each other and have till now, enjoyed over 30 years of married togetherness.
Inspite of being one of the richest men in the world, Mukesh hasn’t forgotten his humility and his favourite food still remains ‘idli-sambhar’. His love for basic Indian food is well known and the man is a vegetarian and a teetotaller.
Mukesh has a healthy rapport with his children and he claims that they have helped him learn new things in business. He thinks of them as his partner just as his father made him his, at the tender age of 14!
As with most businessmen, Mukesh too, will be facing some challenges in 2018. Investing crores in Assam in various sectors, is his next project.
