Importance of Mundan Sanskar in life

The Mundan Sanskar is the most important of the 16 samskaras and has a strong influence on a person's life. Here are some important points related to this:

  • It is a ritual that teaches a child to maintain cleanliness.

  • Strengthens the nerves of the brain.

  • Helps in better hair growth.

  • The child's head keeps cool in summer.

  • Helps reduce the pain that occurs when the tooth comes out.

  • Protects the child from evil eyes.

  • This sacrament gives the child a long and happy life by destroying all the negative energy around him.

Shaving ceremony

Astrologers suggest that Mundan ceremonies should be performed in the odd year, i.e., 1st, 3rd, 5th year. Whereas according to Hindu astrology, even years to perform Mundan rites are considered inauspicious.

Mundan ceremony

  • The best time for the elder daughter or son to shave the head is when the Sun is in Taurus.

  • Do not perform Mundan Sanskar of a child below five years. If the mother is pregnant for more than five months, then also this ceremony is not performed.

  • According to the Hindu calendar, Chaitra, Vaishakh, Jyeshtha, Ashadh, Magha, and Phalgun are considered auspicious for Mundan Muhurta. Also, Dasham Dwitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Saptami, Dashami, Ekadashi, and Trayodashi dates are auspicious.

  • The 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th, 11th, or 13th lunar days of the month are very auspicious.

  • Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday are considered inauspicious for shaving. All the rest are good days to perform this rite. However, the Mundan Sanskar Muhurat for a girl should not fall on Friday.

  • According to the constellations, Ashwini, Mrigashira, Pushya, Hasta, Punavasu, Chitra, Swati, Jyestha, Shravan, Dhanishtha, and Shatabhisha are beneficial for Mundan rites.

  • Do not choose the day of birth of the child for Mundan. If your child is born on Wednesday, then you should avoid Wednesday.

  • Apart from this, the Mundan Sanskar ceremony's commencement in the Lagna or navamsa of the second, third, fourth, sixth, seventh, ninth, or twelfth signs is considered auspicious.

These are some points that should be kept in mind while planning the Mundan ceremony for your child. Keeping these points in mind will ensure that the rites take place at the right time and that your child leads a happy, prosperous, and blessed life. So, make sure that you take the help of an experienced Panditji for your child's Mundan ceremony.

Law of shaving

  • During the Mundan ceremony, parents should take their child in their lap. Now, they should turn their face towards the west of the fire of Havan.

  • First, a priest must cut some hair on the child's head and then give it to the barber to handle.

  • Worship of Lord Ganesha and Ayush Homam (Havan) should be organized in the house of Mundan Sanskar.

  • Mundan rites should be conducted in a house, a temple, or a temple of their Kuladevi / Kuladevata.

  • Chopped/folded hair should be collected, and they should be flown into the river.

  • Often people keep the Mundan rites at a pilgrimage site so that the child gets the benefit of the divine atmosphere of that place.

Things to remember during the Mundan ceremony

  • While organizing the Mundan ceremony, it is necessary to keep many things in mind so that the child does not suffer any physical harm.

  • Ensure that the baby is full during the Mundan Muhurat, because if the infant is hungry, he may start crying loudly during the Mundan ceremony. By doing this, your baby may also get hurt.

  • The razors that barbers and priests will use for Mundan must be clean, and barbers must be experienced.

  • After the Mundan ceremony, give the baby a bath properly so that the hair sticking to his body is washed away.

According to Hindu customs, the ritual of Mundan should be performed on dates during special times, which are auspicious.
