Nag Panchami Pooja Methodologies by Aacharya Aaditya

The festival of Nag Panchami would be celebrated on 25 July 2020. It happens to be one of the most important festivals during the month of Shravan and it bestows favourable results through Nag Pooja. Lord Shiva has adorned the Nagas/serpents as his ornament and adorned them in his neck and blessed them with exalted status. It is believed that Nag Pooja delivers the same results as Shivling Pooja as they were blessed with this boon from Lord Shiva.

It is wise to feed a snake with milk on this day and worshipping Shivling is also very favourable. Offering Nag Nagin made of silver or ranga is also very favourable. One can also offer vegetables long in length like radish, carrot, bottle gourd (lauki) and tarkari to a Shivling is also very auspicious. Performing a Shiv Rudrabhishek is very rewarding on this day.

People also throng pilgrimage places dedicated to the Nagas like Shri Trimbakeshwar in Nashik, Kalahasti Temple in Chittoor, Mannarshala in Haripad (Kerala), Narsinghgarh in Varanasi and Bhujang Nag temple in Kutch, Gujarat to seek blessings.

Nagas/serpents have a special place in Astrology in the form of Rahu and Ketu. Both these planets lead to Kaal Sarp Dosh, Pitra Dosha, Grahan Dosha, Guru Chandal Dosha, and many other afflictions. Interestingly, these planets lead to such dosha only when they occupy a house in association with some other planet. The afflictions caused by these two planets can lead to some serious problems in life. Astrology has identified twelve major types of Kaal Sarp Dosha that can be pacified on this day. Nag Panchami emerges as a very rewarding day to get rid of such afflictions and lead a happy life.

Anyone who has Rahu in Lagna (1st house) and Ketu in the 7th house, Rahu in the 2nd house and Ketu in the 8th house, Rahu in 5th house and Ketu in the 11th house, Rahu in the 7th house and Ketu in the Lagna, Rahu in the 8th house and Ketu in the 2nd house and Rahu in the 11th house and Ketu in the 5th house should undertake worship and charity on this day. Otherwise also any kind of worship is rewarding for anyone and everyone on this day.

Recitation of Nav Nag Stotra, Nag Gayatri Mantra and Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra is considered very auspicious and rewarding.
