Lately, it’s been raining period films and Alia Bhatt’s fans are waiting for her latest release, ‘Raazi’, which is again, an upcoming Indian period thriller film. Directed by Meghna Gulzar,’Raazi’(meaning=agree), is based on Harinder Sikka’s novel, ‘Calling Sehmat’. Vicky Kaushal plays Alia’s love interest in the film. In the novel, the lead character’s name is Sehmat, which also means Raazi. According to Meghna, the two words fit perfectly with the plot of the story.
The book is based on the life of an Indian Kashmiri woman(Pseudo name-Sehmat), who was instructed by her father to marry a Pakistani officer, during the 1971, Indo-Pakistan war, so that she could spy on the military in Pakistan. How such fearless and patriotic girls have contributed their bit for the security of our country and how these nameless loyalists disappear in the pages of the history books, forms the basis of the movie. These girls are no less than soldiers and deserve the respect of every Indian.
Meghna is the only daughter of the famous yesteryear actress, Rakhee and film director and lyricist, Gulzar. She has directed movies like ‘Talvar’ in the past. Born on 13 December, Meghna is a Sagittarius. A Sagittarius wants freedom in their work and thoughts and will not be coerced into picking a run-of-the-mill story. Meghna thus, likes to make movies which have some depth in its story, preferably something that can be authenticated.
