Sportsman of the year, Novak

Novak Djokovic, the latest sensation in the world of men's tennis has been grabbing headlines with his remarkable wins. This Serbian tennis player has been the world number 1 since July 2011. He recently defeated Rafael Nadal again in the Australian open. The 24-year-old owns 5 Grand Slam singles titles.

Born on 22 May 1987, Novak is the cusp of Taurus and Gemini. Athletic and analytical, Novak has taken the world of tennis by storm.

He has played with Murray 11 times so far and leads with a 7-4 record. Also Djokovic and Nadal have played 30 times (the sixth-most head-to-head meetings in the Open Era). Nadal leads with 16-14. Nadal also leads on grass 2-1 and clay 9-2, whereas Djokovic leads on hard courts 11-5.

Novak and Rafael Nadal's rivalry is listed as the third greatest rivalry in the last decade and is considered by many as one of the greatest emerging rivalries. Djokovic is the only player to have at least ten match wins against Nadal and the only person to defeat Nadal seven times sequentially.

The duo shares the record for the longest Australian Open and Grand Slam final matches ever played (5 hours and 53 minutes) which was the 2012 Australian Open final, as well as the record for the longest match played in a best of three sets (4 hours) In the 2011 Wimbledon final, Djokovic won in four sets, which was his first victory over Nadal in a Major.

Novak is temperamental and stubborn and can get frustrated if things do not go the way he wants. He craves excitement, change and discovery, and cannot tolerate a routine or lifestyle that offers little in the way of surprise or challenge. Excitable, spontaneous and enthusiastic about anything new, he may be perceived by others as being too impulsive, especially in personal relationships.

He is very ambitious and his energy is based on his feelings. Novak Djokovic may feel that he has to assert himself regardless of the risks that may be involved. Novak could have considerable tension with others and is not likely to compromise.

The year 2012 will continue to be a great year for him. He will go on to win more titles and will retain his position as the number 1 ranked player. The French Open may elude him but chances of him winning the US Open again are high.
