This year the auspicious and pious occasion of Akshay Tritiya would be celebrated on 26-04-20. The word “Akshay” means indestructible or eternal. There are many such legends associated with this date and there are many events and activities associated with this day that deliver eternal Punya (blessings).

According to our holy texts, some very important events happened on this day. It is believed that Ganga ji descended upon Earth on this day likewise it is marked as the beginning of dictation of Mahabharat by Sage Vyas to Lord Ganpati. Akshay Tritiya also happens to be the birthdate of Lord Parshuram and it was the same day when Sudama visited Lord Krishna at Dwarka in Dwaparyuga. In addition to that, it was Akshay Tritiya when Goddess Durga annihilated Mahishasur.

Some of the important activities that one should undertake on this day are as follows:

Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped to gain material wealth and success in life. This is one of the reasons that buying gold on this day is considered very auspicious. Worshipping Shri Yantra yields tremendous monetary growth.
Worshipping Surya by offering argha/jal and reciting ’Shri Aditya Hriday Stotra” delivers mental and physical growth and clears all obstacles in the way to success.
Taking a dip in holy rivers like Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari, Narmada etc is very auspicious and it cleanses one from all kinds of sins.
Reciting “Shri Suktam” and “Rina Mochak Mangal Stotra” clears off monetary debts and attracts fresh inflow of money in life.
Mantra recitation and mantra siddhi can also be practised on this day.
Charity/donation of money and food items to needy people delivers eternal Punya.
Being a swayamsidh muhurat on this day, it is very auspicious for marriage related events, marriage related buying. Also, it is considered very auspicious for new house warming, starting a new venture and buying a new vehicle.
