Gana Koota In Kundli Matching

Gana Koota is the 6th aspect in the Ashtakoota Milan system of Kundli Matching. It helps assess the temperament compatibility between partners, and the characteristic traits of the partners looking to get married.

According to Vedic Astrology, there are 3 Ganas, namely; Deva (which means Divine), Manuj/ Manushya (which means Human), and Rakshas (which means Demon). These Ganas dictate the temperaments and nature of the nakshatras belonging to it. Individuals belonging to Deva Gana are considered to be simple, yet witty. They are deep thinkers and often participate in philanthropy.

Individuals belonging to Manuj Gana are considered to be gentle and tender, and often acquire the most wealth. On the other hand, individuals belonging to Rakshas Gana are considered to be foul tempered and stubborn, which often results in them getting into fights with people around them.

  2. Manuj Gana- Ardra, Bharani, Poorvabhadra, Poorvaphalguni, Poorvashadha, Rohini, Uttarabhdra, Uttaraphalguni, and Uttarashadha.

The maximum points to score Gana Koota is 6 points. If both the partners belong to the same Gana, then 6 points are given to the couple, with the exception of the combination of Deva and Manuj Gana.

If the boy belongs to Deva Gana, and the girl belongs to Manuj Gana, then 5 points are given to the couple.

0 points are scored when the boy belongs to the Rakshas Gana and the girl belongs to either Deva or Manuj Gana, with the exception of when the girl belong to Rakshas Gana and the boy belongs to Manuj Gana.

The match is considered most suitable and auspicious in Kundli Matching when both partners belong to the same Gana as this shows high compatibility, and is considered least suitable and inauspicious in Kundli Matching when 0 points are scored by the couple showing least compatibility. When a couple scores 0 points, it is called Gana Dosha.

Problems and issues arise in a relationship because of Gana Dosha when both partners find it difficult to adjust to each others’ tempers and nature, or continuously argue. This causes partners to seek companionship outside of their marriage, and sometimes even results in extra marital affairs.

However, Gana Dosha is not considered if- the lord of the signs of the partners to be married are mutual friends, or if both partners have the same lord of the sign, or even if both the partners have the same navamsha.

Gana Koota is important in Kundli Matching as it helps to assess whether the characters of the partners match with each other or not. A high Gana Koota score indicates a good match which would in turn cause less arguments and fights between the partners while a low score could give root to unnecessary fights.
