Celebrating Janamashtami

Krishna Jayanti or simply Janmashtami, is celebrated with much enthusiasm by Hindus all over the world, mainly in Northern India (Vrindavan, Mathura, Dwarka, Delhi, etc) on the eighth day of the Savan, between mid August and mid September. It marks the birth of Lord Krishna who was born about 5000 years back on this day. Ras Lilas depicting the Lord’s life are performed on the occasion, and his idols bathed and worshipped by the devotees, who observe fast till midnight on the given day. The festival continues for two days (in certain areas, for 3 days). Janmashtami signifies the victory of good over evil.
