If the devotees worship this Vrat with complete faith and devotion, they will attain salvation in this birth. Then they should do Achaman (purification process before the Puja) before starting the worship. After this, meditate on God and invoke Lord Hari or Lord Vishnu by chanting the mantra- ‘Om Namo Narayan.’ After this, offer flowers, perfume, etc., to the divine deity. At the area or place of worship, build an altar for the Havan, and then perform the Havan by offering oil, ghee, etc., to the holy fire of the Yagya. After the completion of the Havan, complete your fast with devotion and a sincere heart while ruminating on the name of Lord Vishnu. The devotee should sleep close to the idol of Lord Vishnu at night. On the next day of the Purnima, the devotees are advised to perform Dan-Dakshina that involves feeding Brahmins or needy people or doing charity according to one’s ability. The donations can be in the form of clothes, food, or money. It is believed that offering donations on Margashirsha Purnima gives thirty-two times more benefits in comparison to any other day; therefore, the name ‘Battissi Purnima’ is used for the occasion.
