Namkaran Muhurat in 2022: Know All About It

In our scriptures, sixteen sacraments of human life have been described, lasting from birth to death. The ‘Namkaran Sanskar’ or the ‘Naming ceremony’ is given utmost significance and value in Hinduism. And why shouldn’t it be! The name is the marker of the identity of a person. This is why the Namkaran Sanskar, wherein the naming of a child happens, is considered an important event for a newborn child and their parents and family. Therefore, the Namkaran ceremony of a newborn child should be done on a special Muhurat.

Namkaran Ceremony: What Is It All About?

As mentioned earlier, the ‘Namkaran Sanskar’ is one of the sixteen significant sacraments described in the Hindu scriptures. It is the baby’s first and undoubtedly the most important sacrament. The name offers validity to a person’s existence. This has the potential to provide lifelong results for the child when performed with complete devotion and faith by the newborn baby’s parents and family members. The naming ceremony is not only considered necessary on religious grounds, but it also has incredible astrological importance. Therefore, based on religious and astrological beliefs, you should name your child on an auspicious day under the guidance of astrologers so that the child can have a good life.

Are you wondering why the Namkaran ceremony is considered beneficial and mandatory for a child? When the Namkaran ceremony is done on a Shubh Muhurat, the successful commemoration of the ceremony can bless the child’s life in every possible way.

  • First and foremost, the ceremony offers an identity to the baby, which holds enormous importance for the child’s future.
  • The rituals during the ceremony are done to seek good wishes and blessings for the newborn child so that the child can have a long, prosperous, and happy life ahead.
  • Hindus strongly believe that the child’s name has an enormous influence on the child’s character. It can also shape their destiny.
  • People believe that a child’s development happens better after the successful commemoration of the Namkaran ceremony.
  • This ceremony also increases the life expectancy and intelligence of the child.
  • This ceremony cements the fact that the newborn baby will have a prosperous and good future life.
  • It is believed that if the child's name is not in accordance or sync with the planetary positions in the child's birth chart (Kundli), then it can bring bad luck to the child. Hence, an astrologer should be consulted, and then the correct name should be chosen for the child.

The energy of the name that you choose for your child would be by your child's side for their whole life. The name has the power to make the child's life successful and fruitful, or it could make life an average one. Thus, the decision of coming up with a name is in your hands, and you should choose and plan the ceremony wisely. This is where a Shubh Muhurat for Namkaran becomes essential.

But, do you know what Muhurat is?

In astrology, the Muhurat or Muhurta is the favorable or opportune moment or a time span. It is believed that when a task or work is performed in a Shubh Muhurat, the chances of success increase substantially. You should be aware that performing any task at an auspicious time will yield maximum results. Thus, it is essential to consider the Muhurat before going ahead with any critical activity or auspicious function such as the Namkaran ceremony and then solemnize it accordingly.

As mentioned above, the name holds immense importance, making the naming ceremony one of the most important ceremonies that an individual goes through. Many parents decide to name their children on any insignificant day in the modern age. However, as per the customs of Hinduism, a newborn baby must be named during the Namkaran ceremony on a Shubh Muhurat under the supervision of the elders of the family. It is considered auspicious to conduct the Namkaran ceremony on the Muhurat.

It would be best to remember that every auspicious work and each new task should be completed only after checking the auspicious date and time. So, if you want to give your little bundle of joy a sweet name, finding a Shubh Muhurat is of utmost importance. This is where Astroyogi's Namkaran Muhurat 2022 can be of enormous help.

When Should The Namkaran Ceremony Be Performed?

As mentioned above, the naming or Namkaran ceremony is quite essential. The name plays a crucial part in the person's identity in society. When a newborn baby comes into a family, the parents and other family members often start calling them by any name. However, traditionally according to the customs of the Hindu religion, the baby's Namkaran ceremony must be done after the tenth day from their birth. You can perform it on the eleventh or twelfth day of your child's birth.

Ideally, the 'Sutika' or 'Shuddhikaran' phase should come before this ceremony. This period is when the newborn child and the mother are given intensive postnatal care. This period is regarded as unholy for the naming ceremony. Hence, it's necessary that parents should patiently wait for the ten days to pass, and the eleventh or twelfth day would be an auspicious choice for the Namkaran ceremony with complete rituals and customs. Nevertheless, the eleventh or twelfth day is not mandatory. Based on an astrologer's advice, parents and family members can select any day before the baby's first birthday.

The astrologer selects the auspicious date and time based on the birth chart of the newborn child to perform the Namkaran ceremony. During the ceremony, the astrologer takes a proper look at the baby's birth chart and names them after analyzing the Nakshatras (constellations). According to Hindu traditions, the name's initial letter is also important. Thus, it should be selected based on the Janam Nakshatra, the planetary placements at the time of birth, and the Moon sign. When you consult with an experienced astrologer for a naming ceremony, they can usually inform you what you need to keep in mind while naming your child. Based on the baby's birth time and date, a specific letter associated with the zodiac sign or Rashi is chosen. Then a name starting from that particular letter related to the Rashi is used to find a suitable name for the child. Doing so will ensure that the newborn baby gets good luck and fortune throughout their whole life.

Special Things to Focus on While Naming Your Child

Yes, the child is yours, and you have every right to name them as you please. However, according to Vedic astrology, if there is any negligence while naming the child, it could be detrimental for the child and cause the child life-long problems; therefore, the parents should be vigilant while coming up with a name for their child.

As the Namkaran ceremony holds immense importance, below are some points that you must keep in mind while selecting the right Muhurat for the ceremony.

  • When it comes to naming your child, always do a thorough review of the auspicious day, Tithi, and Nakshatra
  • Although all the auspicious Nakshatras for the naming ceremony in the year 2022 are favorable and are mentioned above. But, some Nakshatras are considered more favorable for the naming ceremony. Nakshatras such as Ashwini, Swati, Shatabhisha, Chitra, Hasta, Revathi, Sravana, Rohini, Mrigashira, and Anuradha, are considered most favorable for the naming ceremony.
  • The best days for your child's naming ceremony are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

You should ensure that your newborn child has two names, i.e., an official name and a nickname. It is believed that giving two names helps your child possess the identity of dual names. This offers your child more vital and better energy. However, avoid giving multiple names to your child.

Remember that the name you decide for your child will be with them in every step of their life until their last breath! Everyone gets recognized and known by their name. Hence, the naming ceremony for your child holds immense significance, so you should always choose a Shubh Muhurat and take the guidance of an astrologer
