Anyone fan of Telugu or the South Indian film industry should know Nagarjuna Akkineni. Akkineni Nagarjuna Rao, born on August 29, 1959, is a multifaceted film personality who has excelled as an actor, film producer, television presenter, and entrepreneur. Acting is in his blood and genes as his father was the legendary Telugu film actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao.
Nagarjuna is a predominantly Telugu actor but has acted in Tamil and a few Hindi films. He has won various awards, including two national and three Filmfare Awards (South). Like his father, Nagarjuna has excelled in biographical movies depicting different characters like Sai Baba, Hathiram Bavaji, and the 15th-century composer Annamacharya.
Though born in Madras (now Chennai) in 1959, he hails from Ramapuram in the Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh. He did his initial schooling in Hyderabad before joining the College of Engineering Guindy, Anna University, for his first year BE (Mechanical Engineering), where he was collegemates with Krishnamachari Srikanth, the flamboyant Indian Test cricket opener and commentator. He left the college early and joined Easter Michigan University, Michigan, to complete his BS in Mechanical Engineering.
Nagarjuna belonged to one of the most illustrious film families in the Telugu industry after NT Ramarao. His father, Nageswara Rao, was an acclaimed actor during his prime. Nagarjuna started his illustrious film career as a child artiste in 1967. He enacted his first lead role in the 1986 Telugu film Vikram, a remake of the Bollywood film Hero. After that, he established himself as a competent Telugu actor. He performed lead roles with top heroines like Shobana, Sridevi, Suhasini, Vijayashanti, and later on, Amala (who became his wife).
He has performed in some Hindi films like Shiva, Criminal, Khuda Gavah, LOC Kargil, etc. In between, he also worked in some Tamil movies like Ratchagan.

Nagarjuna married Lakshmi Daggubati, daughter of noted producer D Rama Naidu and sister of actor Venkatesh. They have one son, Naga Chaitanya (a prominent actor), who was in the news recently because of his divorce from Samantha. Nagarjuna divorced his wife Lakshmi and married his co-star from various films, Amala, in 1992. They have one son, Akhil, who is also an actor.
Nagarjuna has won several awards for his performances in Telugu films.

Nagarjuna debuted as a TV producer in 2009 for the soap opera Yuva. Besides, he was a significant shareholder in the TV channel Maa TV. He also hosted the Telugu version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire titled Meelo Evaru Koteeswarudu in 2014. Besides, he hosted the Telugu versions of Big Boss from 2019 to 2021.
Nagarjuna is the co-owner of Mumbai Masters in the Indian Badminton League with Sunil Gavaskar. He also owns the Mahi Racing Team in partnership with M S Dhoni. He is also a co-owner of Kerala Blasters FC in the Indian Super League.
Nagarjuna endorses Kalyan Jewellers in Telugu. He was listed in Forbes India’s top 100 Celebrities in 2012 and 2013, at No 36 and No 43, respectively.
