I was addressing a small group of people in the course of my work and began speaking of the impact of energies. Foolish of me to have assumed that most people understood the fundamentals of energy. Most looked blank as though the last time they heard the word was in their physics class. I was trying to explain the impact of energies to the results they wish to manifest but I saw that before I could go deeper… it was important I explain to them and to you my readers that.... exactly what energies are, and how they are present in our day to day life.
Energies are not some spiritual buzzwords...that are up in the sky, they are within us. How do you ask? We all have an energy body, very much the way we have a physical body and a mental & emotional body. While modern medicine has never acknowledged the existence of the energy body; it is finally catching up with what ayurveda and yoga have spoken of all along. The dimension of an energy body is within us. It is not our mind, it is neither our body. The energy body is activated, yes, by vibrations. Positive vibrations are higher, and negative are lower. Here are a few examples from our day to day lives that you may be more familiar with...
Whenever we accidentally touch someone, why do we place our hand on our heart to apologize?
We apologize and place our hand on our heart... because in touching someone we may have disturbed their energy body or aura or possibly our own.

Another example from our everyday life… Why do we bend to touch an elder’s feet? Why do they place their hands on our head, especially when I hear from so many young people, touching feet is not the only way to show respect. Now you will understand this much better.
When we bend to receive blessings, and touch someone's feet, and they in turn place their hand on our head, we are doing so to complete an energy circuit between the giver and receiver of blessings. This energizes the energy body using positive vibrations.
How do energies actually work? Energies are based on vibrations… very much like a light bulb and electricity. The electric current is energy, and the voltage of the current is the vibration. In simple words, you understand the power of electricity but cannot touch it, and when we switch on a bulb, the room lights up.
What does that mean when we use it in our life? Why are energies and vibrations important?
They are important because they impact the quality of our life. Positive vibrations are activated in our body when we act and work with acceptance or joy and enthusiasm. Actions in which we lose all sense of time. In those moments, we too are lit up.
Negative vibrations on the other hand are not deliberate bad thoughts as many think, rather they are actions and work done with low tolerance, disinterest and disdain. The sense of time spent is acute. We look and feel dull and bored. In short, negative vibrations generate negative energy and positive vibrations generate positive energy.

Exactly the same work, different vibration, different energy, different result.
While this is how energies are prevalent in our daily lives’ activities they are also apparent in our thoughts and words of which I have written earlier. The impact of our thoughts and our words change the quality of our energies. Positive thoughts, positive words bring positive energies and good outcomes. Remember our elders would reprimand us for any negative utterances and would immediately say "shubh shubh bolo." (Say auspicious words only)
The same holds true of negative words and negative thoughts. How is a thought defined as negative or positive deserves its own blog! Positive energies vibrate at a different frequency to negative energies and therefore the outcome of what we want in our life is different. So to oversimplify, our mind generates our thoughts which then become our words, our words generate vibrations, these vibrations turn into energy, and the energy talks to the universe through its own frequency channels. Remember the radio stations of the universe, and voila, you have the life you deserve. So next time you say “Life is unfair” that is exactly what it will be, but if you say, “I am so blessed” so too you shall be.
