Vaastu is the place where Gods and human beings reside. The land is the most important factor for all Vaastu Karmas. Land has been termed as "VASTUVU" in our classical literature. The constructions made on that Vastuvu is called Vaastu.
Now, the knowledge which contains the regulations of constructing Vastuvu is known as the science of Vaastu. We should forego construction in the following plots/lands:
The plots where the shadow of a butcher’s house fall
The plots which had cracks from earthquakes or were burnt by fire
The plots where bones, skulls, teeth, hair, ash and holes are found
The plots where snakes live or have rat holes
The plots opposite to the ones where the idols of the most feared Gods and Goddesses like Kaali, Chandi, Durga, Veerbhadra, etc. are installed
The plots on the top of a mountain or a hill
The plots having longer front portion than the rear (Valita Dosha)
The plots having non-symmetrical corners (Chalita Dosha)
The plots where eagles, donkeys, dogs, foxes, pigs, tribals and harijans have free access
The plots opposite to a cemetery or a graveyard
The plots behind the temples of Lord Shiva and/or Lord Vishnu
The plots that have foul smell and no water sources
On the contrary, the following types of lands are suitable for the construction of dwelling houses:
Rectangular shaped plots where the Northern and the Southern parts of the plot are longer than the Eastern and the Western ones
Rectangular shaped plots with longer Eastern and Western parts are considered second best
Square shaped plots are believed to bring wealth
Circular shaped plots bless the dweller with knowledge and money
Plots having equal measurement in opposite directions and are curved inside like a bow with large measurements on the other two opposite directions
Vaastu suggests that rectangular shaped, square shaped and circular plots are the best for construction of houses. Various other kinds of sites like wheel shaped, rhombus shaped, rod shaped, drum shaped, L-shaped, etc. are prohibited for construction of houses and subsequent dwelling of them.
