Vishwakarma Puja Date And Time That You Should Know
Vishwakarma Puja falls on the day of Kanya Sankranti or Kanya Sankramanam, and as per the Gregorian calendar, it usually falls on the 16th or 17th of September. In India, it is a restricted holiday. Vishwakarma Puja 2022 will fall on 17th September 2022 (Saturday). The calculations of Vishwakarma Puja are done as per Bisuddha Siddhanta. The occasion is celebrated in Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab. In many Eastern states such as West Bengal, Tripura, Assam, Jharkhand, and Orissa, it is celebrated as ‘Biswakarma Puja.’ Vishwakarma Puja is observed on the final or last day of the Bengali month, Bhadra, also commonly known as Kanya Sankranti or Bhadra Sankranti. The birth anniversary of Lord Vishwakarma is considered a highly pious occasion with immense religious significance for the followers of Hinduism. It is believed by the devotees that Lord Vishwakarma is the child of Lord Brahma. Lord Vishwakarma is known to have designed and created palaces and even divine weapons for Gods. The enormity of his creations and works are mentioned in the Sthapatya Veda, which is the science of architecture and mechanics, and Rig Veda.
Devotees consider the Vishwakarma Puja or Vishwakarma Jayanti as a momentous day that honors the divine Lord Vishwakarma. This day holds immense significance for the worker community. The day is not only revered by the architectural and engineering communities but also by craftsmen, artisans, welders, carpenters, mechanics, factory workers, industrial workers, and others. On this day, they pray to Lord Vishwakarma for safe working conditions, safe and smooth working of the machines, a better future, and success in their respective fields. Special Pujas and prayers are held in shops, offices, factories, and workplaces on Vishwakarma Puja. The place of worship is beautifully decorated with flowers, depicting the celebration and festivity in the air on this day.
On this occasion, devotees worship Lord Vishwakarma and his ‘Vahan’ or vehicle, the elephant. The machines installed in the offices, factories, and industries are also worshiped on this day. Additionally, the workers and craftspeople worship their tools on this day.
Special statues, idols, or pictures of Lord Vishwakarma are installed in factories and workplaces for worship. The workers and artisans should gather at a common place to perform the Puja.
Devotees should take a bath at dawn and purify themselves. After that, they should clean the machines, tools, and instruments of daily use.
Once done, perform all the rituals associated with the festival.
You must keep a picture of Lord Vishnu along with Lord Vishwakarma during the Vishwakarma Puja. Offer Kumkum (vermillion), Akshat, Gulal, flowers, fruits, sweets, turmeric, rice, betel nuts, incense sticks, Rakshasutra, curd, etc., to the deities.
Make an Ashtadal Rangoli and place seven types of grain on it.
Also, you must keep a Kalash (urn) filled with water during the Puja.
Offer flowers to Lord Vishwakarma with reverence. Then, apply Tilak and put Akshat on all the tools. Devotees must place the urn and apply Roli and Akshat to the urn. Also, recite the mantra- “Om Shri Srishtanaya Sarvasiddhaya Vishwakarmaaya Namo Namah” with complete devotion, and pray to Lord Vishwakarma.
Apply Tilak and vermillion on the tools, urn, machines, and idols of the deity, and offer flowers.
After this, offer sweets to the Gods. Sprinkle Akshat and then sprinkle the water using flower petals all over your home.
Burn incense sticks and light a ghee lamp at the place of worship.
