Will you make a perfect couple, if your horoscopes match? Astroyogi explains

Our Shastras, consider a wife and husband as two sides of a coin, the luck and fate of one would influence the other. A common practice that is prevalent in India is to match the horoscopes, also known as kundlis of a couple, before they decide to be tied in a nuptial bond. Kundli is the chart that maps the position of all the important astronomical bodies at the time of birth. This matching is known as Guna Milap.

It is a well-known fact that our ruling planets play a major effect on our lives. According to vedic astrology, eight aspects of both kundlis are checked during the compatibility analysis of a couple, these are known as the ‘Ashtkoota’ in Vedic astrology. Each aspect is given points or Gunas and in the total there are 36 Gunas associated with the Ashtkoota. Out of 36 Gunas, it is believed, that at least 18 need to match for a compatible marriage. The more the number of Gunas that match, the better the compatibility. The important part here is that the details of the birth chart should be correct.

These are the 8 Kootas, each carrying different points or gunas in vedic astrology:

  • Verna relates to the caste and pedigree of the couple.
  • Vasya shows the attraction factor between them.
  • Tara explains the life line.
  • Yoni describes the nature and physical compatibility.
  • Graha Maitri can show how well both can live together without friction.
  • Gan pertains to the mental compatibility between the two.
  • Bhakoot will indicate how much one partner will influence the other.
  • Nadi shows the health and happiness of the children they will have.

Since each ‘Koota’ has different points/gunas allotted to it and the minimum that should count for good compatibility is 18, sometimes the ‘Kootas’ like Verna, Tara, Nadi etc will carry more weightage and the total will easily cross 18 and the couple will be declared compatible. In a case where you are facing difficulties in a relationship even after a compatibility check, the problem might be pertaining to certain key Kootas, like the Graha Maitri or Gan. Other Kootas may have been matching well, but these key aspects would be lacking in your Kundli match. In such cases friction would arise between the couple.

When other points are matching well in your kundli, and factors like Tara, Bhakoot and Nadi are highly compatible, it makes sense to compromise a little with your life partner regarding the other Kootas, now that you are already married. It makes sense to not rely only on ready made softwares for matching kundlis, but showing the same to expert astrologers, who can take a deeper look into the personalities of both people; and give guidance on whether a match is recommended.  Of course the couple themselves must work on the relationship.

Astrological calculations are based on scientific facts and these calculations are always sensible. So, if your horoscope is well matched with someone, then there is very high probability of you having a happy married life provided you are willing to sacrifice a bit to maintain this relationship.  A kundli matching is not a guarantee of a happy life, but it allows a good astrologer to know if this match is indeed something worth pursuing.
