This mantra is also known as Rudra mantra as it invokes the fiercest form of Lord Shiva - Rudra. It also finds mention in the Rigveda and Yajurveda as the Trymbakam Mantra as it refers to the “three-eyed-one” - a description of Lord Rudra.
As per Hindu mythology, the Mahamrityunjaya mantra is said to be the conqueror of death. Due to this reason, it also goes by the name of Sanjeevani Mantra as it can revive a dying person and restore them to life.
It is believed that chanting Mahamrityunjaya Mantra on a regular basis can enhance the health of a person on a physical, mental and emotional level. With the help of this mantra, you can gain a healthy and long life.

According to Hindu mythology, there are two most important mantras that are chanted by millions of devotees all over the world. These are the Mahamrityunajaya mantra as well as the Gayatri mantra.
Both the mantras are chanted to elevate the spiritual awareness of a person and bring about a transformation in his/her personality. The Gayatri mantra purifies the soul and guides one to follow the path of spirituality. On the other hand, the Mahamrityunjaya mantra can lead to inner healing and revitalization of the reciter.
There is a certain protocol that is to be followed while chanting the Mahamrityunjaya mantra. First of all, you must take a bath and cleanse yourself. Then wear clean clothes and keep a shiv lingam in front of you before starting the mantra chanting. Using the rudraksha Jaap mala will prove to be highly beneficial as well.
The early morning hours (4 AM - 6 AM) is the best time to chant this mantra. It is very important to chant it with utmost devotion and sincerity. You may also apply bhasma, kumkum or Chandan to please Lord Shiva and then close your eyes to concentrate on the area in the middle of your eyebrows - the point where the third eye resides.
The mantra can be chanted 9 times a day at different times such as before leaving the house, while taking medicines, before going to bed and so on. If you give up non-vegetarian food and then chant the mantra then it will prove to have additional advantages for you.
The most important thing is to feel the vibrations produced while chanting the mantra because the reverberating effects of these sounds have a lasting impact on your inner consciousness.
